Description
Motoko Kusanagi is the central character of Ghost in the Shell, the science-fiction franchise created by Masamune Shirow. Known as the Major, she is a highly skilled operative associated with Public Security Section 9, a unit that handles complex cybercrime and security cases. Her cybernetic body and human consciousness place her at the heart of the series’ questions about identity, memory, technology, and what it means to be human.
Ghost in the Shell began as a manga and expanded into animated films and television series, with each adaptation offering its own take on Motoko and the world around her. Across these versions, she is defined by her command of advanced technology, her experience in covert operations, and her work alongside Section 9 colleagues. The franchise combines futuristic action with philosophical themes, making Motoko a distinctive figure in anime and manga science fiction.
