## New Jersey: The Indomitable "Black Dragon"
In the naval-warship girl gacha game **Azur Lane**, **New Jersey** (USS New Jersey, BB-62) is a member of the Eagle Union and one of the game’s most powerful and charismatic characters. As an Ultra Rare (UR) Iowa-class battleship, she is a titan on the battlefield and a literal "shining star" in port.
### Personality: The Energetic Showstopper
New Jersey is a massive departure from the stoic or overly serious battleship tropes.
* **The "Big Sister" Energy:** She is incredibly confident, outgoing, and playful. She refers to herself as "Indomitable" and "The Black Dragon," but she carries these titles with a cheerful, almost bubbly attitude rather than arrogance.
* **Affectionate and Fun-Loving:** She is famously one of the most openly affectionate characters toward the Commander (the player). She loves to have fun and is often seen as the life of the party, bringing a modern, upbeat vibe to the fleet.
* **Unwavering Confidence:** Her motto, "Firepower is freedom," sums her up perfectly. She doesn't just want to win; she wants to win with style and a smile.

### Appearance: The High-Tech Dragon
New Jersey’s design is a blend of futuristic naval technology and sleek, draconic aesthetics.
* **Visual Style:** She has long, flowing azure-blue hair and striking eyes. Her "bunny girl" skin (Exhilarating Steps!) is one of the most famous and high-earning skins in the history of the game, cementing her status as a fan favorite.
* **The Rigging:** Her rigging is massive, featuring the iconic triple 16-inch guns of the Iowa class, but styled with blue glowing accents and sleek, "mecha-dragon" plating that gives her a high-tech, futuristic look.
* **Glowing Accents:** When she activates her abilities, her rigging and eyes glow with blue energy, emphasizing her "Black Dragon" nickname.

### Role in Combat: The Ultimate Battery
As an Ultra Rare battleship, New Jersey is a "meta-defining" unit that trivializes many of the game's hardest encounters.
* **Massive Firepower:** Her primary skill, "Dragon's Breath," allows her to rain down a unique, high-damage barrage that ignores many enemy defenses.
* **Fleet Support:** She provides massive buffs to other Eagle Union ships, making her the essential centerpiece for any USN-themed fleet.
* **Cross-Fleet Support:** Even if she isn't in the active fleet, she can provide "support fire" from the second fleet, helping her allies from across the map.
---
### Why Fans Adore Her
New Jersey became a global phenomenon in the Azur Lane community for several reasons:
* **The "Honey" Voice:** Her voice lines (voiced by Naomi Ozora) are incredibly sweet and enthusiastic. Her use of "Honey" to address the player turned her into an instant "waifu" icon.
* **Accessibility and Power:** Unlike some other "boss" characters, she is genuinely kind and supportive, making her feel like a true partner to the player.
* **Visual Fidelity:** Her Live2D animations are some of the most advanced in the game, capturing her expressive personality perfectly.
### The Real History
Fans also appreciate the connection to the real-life **USS New Jersey**, which is currently a museum ship in Camden, New Jersey. The game character often references her history as the most decorated battleship in U.S. Navy history, making her "Black Dragon" nickname a tribute to her actual wartime service.
New Jersey is a reminder that you can be the most dangerous weapon on the ocean and still be the sweetest person in the room—provided you have enough firepower to back it up.
