## Quitterie Rafaeli: The Sharp-Tongued Specialist
In the sci-fi survival epic **Astra Lost in Space** (*Kanata no Astra*), **Quitterie Rafaeli** is the group’s resident doctor and one of the most complex characters aboard the ship. While she initially comes across as a spoiled rich girl, her arc is one of the most emotional and transformative in the series.
### Personality: The Tsundere with a Scalpel
Quitterie begins the journey as the "difficult" member of the crew, but her prickliness is a shield for her insecurities.
* **The Perfectionist:** As the daughter of a world-renowned doctor, she feels immense pressure to be perfect. She is highly intelligent and genuinely skilled in medicine, but she lacks social grace.
* **The Prickly Exterior:** She is classic "Tsundere"—often yelling, complaining, or being cynical to hide the fact that she actually cares deeply for her crewmates.
* **The Protective Sister:** Her relationship with her "sister," **Funicia**, is the emotional core of her character. Initially distant, Quitterie eventually embraces her role as a protector, leading to some of the series' most touching moments.
---
### Role on the Astra: The Medical Lifeline
Without Quitterie, the crew of the *Astra* would not have survived their trek across the galaxy.
* **Expert Physician:** Despite being a teenager, her medical knowledge is elite. She handles everything from alien stings and mysterious illnesses to traumatic injuries with professional focus.
* **The Voice of Logic:** While Kanata provides the inspiration and Zack provides the math, Quitterie often provides the "common sense" (even if it’s delivered with a shout).
---
### Appearance and Design: The Elegant Scientist
Quitterie’s design reflects her high-class upbringing and her fiery personality.
* **Visual Style:** She has long, dark hair (often in pigtails or a high ponytail) and sharp, expressive eyes. She is frequently seen in her white space suit or a lab coat, maintaining a look that is both feminine and professional.
* **The "Rich Girl" Aesthetic:** Even in the depths of space, she tries to maintain her sense of style and hygiene, which serves as a recurring comedic element in the series.
---
### Key Relationships
* **Zack Walker:** Her childhood friend and the only person who can truly handle her temper. Their bickering dynamic is a fan favorite, and their mutual respect (and burgeoning romance) is one of the series' highlights.
* **Funicia:** The revelation regarding their true connection is a major plot twist that changes Quitterie’s worldview and forces her to grow from a self-centered girl into a compassionate guardian.
### Why Fans Love Her
Quitterie is a favorite because she feels **human.**
* **Growth:** She starts as arguably the most "unlikable" character and ends as one of the most beloved. Her journey from being ashamed of her family to finding a "found family" in the crew is masterfully written.
* **Competence:** There is a great satisfaction in seeing the "complainer" turn into a total "boss" the moment someone gets hurt.
Quitterie Rafaeli is a reminder that being "prickly" doesn't mean you don't have a heart—it often just means you're protecting a very large one.
Which of these "specialist" characters we've discussed do you find has the most interesting character growth?
