## Ruka Sarashina: The Heartbeat on a Timer
In the world of **Rent-a-Girlfriend** (*Kanojo, Okarishimasu*), **Ruka Sarashina** is the explosive "Force of Nature" among the heroines. While the story often moves at a glacial pace, Ruka is the one constantly trying to kick-start the engine.
### The Girl with the Low Heart Rate
Ruka’s backstory is unique among the cast and provides the foundation for her obsessive behavior.
* **The Medical Condition:** Since childhood, Ruka has suffered from a slow heart rate (bradycardia), which left her feeling emotionally "numb" and unable to experience the world with the same intensity as others.
* **The Search for Excitement:** She became a Rental Girlfriend not for the money, but to find something—or someone—who could make her heart race. When she meets the protagonist, Kazuya, and experiences a spike in her heart rate, she latches onto him with absolute, desperate devotion.
---
### Personality: Unfiltered and Relentless
Ruka is the antithesis of the series' main heroine, Chizuru Mizuhara. Where Chizuru is guarded and professional, Ruka is **emotionally raw and aggressive**.
* **The Self-Proclaimed "Official" Girlfriend:** She refuses to play the "rental" game. She forces Kazuya into a "provisional" relationship and constantly demands to be treated as his real partner, often causing massive public scenes to assert her position.
* **Brutally Honest:** Ruka has no "poker face." If she is jealous, she screams; if she is happy, she clings. While this can be exhausting for the characters, it makes her incredibly transparent to the audience.
* **The Underdog Energy:** There is a tragic layer to her character. She is fully aware that Kazuya’s heart belongs to Chizuru, but she believes that through sheer willpower and "effort," she can change his mind.
---
### Role in the Narrative
Ruka serves as the **Obstacle and the Catalyst**.
* **The Reality Check:** She is often the only character willing to call out the absurdity of the "rental" lies. She frequently threatens to expose the truth to Kazuya’s family, forcing the plot to move forward when it gets stuck in a cycle of deception.
* **The Third Wheel:** In the romantic geometry of the series, Ruka represents the "Passionate Present." She offers Kazuya a relationship without lies or rental fees, acting as a constant temptation for him to take the easy path and give up on his pursuit of Chizuru.
### Why Fans are Divided
Ruka is one of the most polarizing characters in the series.
* **Team Ruka** fans love her for her **honesty and loyalty**. They see her as a girl fighting an uphill battle for the person she loves, and they sympathize with her desire to finally "feel alive."
* **Critics** find her pushy and boundary-crossing, often noting that her love can sometimes feel more like a desperate obsession born from her medical condition.
Regardless of where you stand, Ruka brings a **vibrant, chaotic energy** to the series that keeps the stakes high and the heart monitors beeping.
