Description
In the high-stakes, supernatural world of **Date A Live**, **Natsumi Kyouno** is the seventh Spirit to be introduced (codenamed **Witch**). She is a master of transformation and illusion, but beneath her magical trickery lies one of the most vulnerable and relatable emotional arcs in the entire series.
### The Duality of Appearance
Natsumi is defined by a deep-seated **inferiority complex**. This manifests in her two distinct forms:
* **The Adult Form:** Her "ideal" self. In this state, she appears as a stunningly beautiful, curvaceous young woman with emerald-green hair and a sophisticated aura. She uses this form to hide her insecurities and interact with the world with a false sense of confidence.
* **The True Form:** Her actual appearance is that of a petite, somewhat disheveled young girl with a shy and self-deprecating personality. She believes this form is "ugly" and "worthless," leading her to become a shut-in who avoids human contact.
---
### Personality: The Vulnerable Prankster
When Natsumi is first introduced, she acts as a sophisticated antagonist who plays psychological games with Shido.
* **Paranoia and Revenge:** After she believes Shido saw her true form, she becomes convinced he is mocking her. She uses her powers to kidnap his friends and replace them with imposters, forcing him into a "Guess Who" game of life and death.
* **The Need for Validation:** Once she is sealed and joins the household, her personality shifts into that of a nervous, self-conscious child. She is desperately afraid of being hated and often goes to extreme lengths to be "useful" to Shido and the other Spirits.
* **The Resident Artist:** Natsumi is surprisingly talented at drawing and makeup, often helping the other Spirits with their appearances—a reflection of her own obsession with "fixing" what she perceives as flaws.
---
### Abilities: The Witch of Metamorphosis
Natsumi’s Angel, **Haniel**, is one of the most versatile and dangerous tools in the series because it doesn't just destroy; it rewrites reality.
* **Transformation:** Haniel takes the form of a broomstick with a magic mirror. It can transform Natsumi, other people, and even inanimate objects into anything she imagines. She can turn powerful weapons into harmless toys or transform herself into a perfect copy of another Spirit.
* **Kaleidoscope:** By using the mirror's power, she can trap enemies in an illusory world or reflect their own attacks back at them.
* **Infiltration:** Because she can change her voice, scent, and appearance perfectly, she is the ultimate spy for Ratatoskr.
### Why Fans Adore Her
Natsumi is a fan favorite because her struggle with **self-image** resonates with so many people. While characters like Tohka or Kurumi feel "larger than life," Natsumi feels very human.
* **The Sisterly Bond:** Her friendship with **Yoshino** is particularly heartwarming. As the two youngest-looking Spirits, they form a "little sister" duo where Yoshino’s quiet kindness helps Natsumi slowly learn to love her true self.
Natsumi Kyouno is a reminder that even a "Witch" with the power to change the world is often just a girl looking for someone to tell her she's enough exactly as she is.
